560SL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH

Does anyone have any experience replacing the turn signal combination switch on a 1987 560sl. I have the steering wheel off and see where the switch mounts to the columb. do I have to pull the dash to get at the cable and plug ? Problem is that the turn signal does not turn off after making a right turn....left is ok. and operates manually but we do not always remember it. Thanks in advance for any input.
