Serpentine belt, commonly referred to as a fan belt.

And the RED OUTLINE arrow is pointing to the magnetic actuator for the intake cam advance/retard mechanism.

The next question is why do you need to know? The part is an electromagnet coil and the rest of the system bolts to the intake cam shaft. If leaking, there is an o ring or gasket used to keep oil in the engine.

@97 SL320,

I am just wondering what it is. I have a 1997 600sl and a 1998 e320, but a friend of mine sold me his 1991 300sl. I thought it be would nice to ask what are those parts that I am not familiar with.

Yes, there is a trace of oil leak from the part mentioned above. I don't know if this can make the car dying whenever it approaches the stop sign ( a sudden deceleration). It's been a month now, since I took ownership of the car and I have never experienced this kind of problem in my two MB. The cap and rotor, spark plugs, spark plugs wires are new, my mechanic also found a serious vacuum leak due to cracked vacuum hoses on the intake manifold and those hoses were all been replaced. I am thinking it could be the CPS or ignition coil maybe?

again thanks for helping..
