Radiator removal on 1991 300 SL

I followed the directions in the tech article and it worked great until the last step. My radiator sits on 2 support pipes coming up from a crossmember that prevents dropping the radiator to unhook the tabs connecting it to the condenser. Where did I stray or is there another solution?

The early 6 has a shorter rad compared to the 8 and 12 so the pipes are used to compensate. My 97 has the tall rad / no pipes and I sort of picked the condenser up and wiggled things out somehow. If you can pick the rad up enough, you might be able to get the rubber rings from under the rad letting it drop down.
