1986 560sl Recommended Mechanic in Traverse City MI/nearby
I have acquired a 1986 560 sl. It has 104,000. There are no timing chain symptoms at all. My reading of this forum and others, however, highly recommends as a preventative measure to replace the timing chain, tensioner and most critically, the plastic guides which may become brittle and cause the most severe and costly damage.
I am proactive and want to proceed with this prophylactic measure. I am asking for a recommendation of a qualified mechanic in Traverse City, MI (or nearby) who has experience in the foregoing service? Meanwhile, literally, on Saturday the odometer/tachometer stopped rotating. I have similarly read that it is a rather simple fix and so, will proceed with having this done with the recommended mechanic too. Finally (and this is more of a diagnostic question to consider for service): when slowing the vehicle (coasting or heavy-steady braking), there is a noticeable TUG from the rear. Conversely, when I pump the brakes and gradually slow, there is no tugging effect. Thoughts? Many thanks for your time and consideration in responding to this post/inquiry. Regards, Page |
