1981 380 SLC starter problems
When I went to start the SLC yesterday the starter engaged and after beginning to turn the engine over it clicked and went dead. Now all you get is a click when you try to start. The battery is new. Do I need to pull the starter or is there another cause. Thanks, Bob Smits

Sounds more like a battery problem. Even if new. Check it with a volt meter. New should be 12.5 volts at rest 14-14.5 with engine running. If less than 12.5 volts (anything below 11) charge it. You may have a parasitic drain in the system when parked or a faulty voltage regulator.
Check and clean cable connections. |

That was my first thought. I had a load test performed at NAPA this am and battery is perfect. Connections at battery are perfect.
What other connections are suspect. Car only has 49K miles and had never been in the rust belt. Stored in climate controlled facility. thanks, Bob Smits |
