Is SL glass roof noisier than regular hard top?
Hi All,
I'm trying to fix a wind noise problem on an SL500 from 1997 that I've just bought (the car came from the factorywith a glass roof). I'm just wondering if the glass roof automatically means the car suffers more wind noise than if it had a regular hard top? I've never had a close look at the inside of a regular hard top, but I guess it would have lots of noise absorption material/padding under the outer fabric, so it probably IS quieter. Does anyone have experience of driving SL's with the two different roofs? Also, I get most windnoise in my car from the B pillar area (where the rear edge of the door windows seal against the side windows of the hard top. Anyone know what I can do to reduce this? Thanks for any ideas. Cheers, John |

We only sold 10-12 of these cars with the Panorama glass roof & I dont think that any of them had any extra wind noise.
There is a service bulletin on the replacement of the "A" pillar seals IF or When a Panaroma roof is used instead of the steel roof on the cars built before chassis end number F107603. Also they don't recommend switching back & forth between glass & steel roofs on the same car. The headliner on the steel roof should absorb some noise BUT the glass roof should have less drag due to shape.
