One spot on the visor, the other on the header.

The proper way is to tighten the adjusting screw - which is behind
the windshield header interior panels.

You will need to remove the Rear View Mirror first - grab it by the stalk only
and pull down hard. It is fitted with a spring loaded press fit.

Then remove two Phillip Head Screws for each of the two header interior panels.
Then you will be able to see the hidden adjusting screw. Tighten that screw
and it will put friction on the SunVisor rod.

Put it back together in reverse. For the Mirror, just push it up into its position
real hard. Don't handle it by the mirror part - instead hold it by the stalk.

I removed my sun visors on my 83 280 SL- 107. I am pretty tall and they always drooped and bothered me. For 50 bucks my local indie removed them during the spring oil change.
Boy I am glad I did it. The visibility is greatly improved and the windshield has a sleeker look somehow, more delicate.
Plus I can always re-install.

I replaced the ugly floppy Sunvisors on my 1983 380SL with a set
from the 560SL series. These are much nicer than the OEM 380SL visors.
The color was wrong but I purchased some SEM vinyl paint and got them
to a very close match.

I've seen folks who have removed their Sunvisors, some who made a set
out of wood, and some who pulled a set from Mercedes Sedans in the Junk Yard
and modified the rod to fit on our roadsters. The Mercedes sedan sunvisors
are much nicer than the OEM 380SL sunvisors. I too also have made a set
and they do look and work nicely.
