hubcentric wheel adapters
Hello,
I have an 82 380SL. I have searched high and low for a definitive answer on a hubcentric wheel adapter. I have several sets of rims that I'd love to run on my SL but they require a 15 (give or take) mm adapter. The age old question about the beveled hubs seems to go around and around. Several companies now claim to make the correct adapter but then I read otherwise. Surely some of us here have done this? Thanks, Andy

Here is a design, self made, that I have used for over ten years. The ring that fits into the wheel is a light press fit. These are 19mm, and were used with ET49 wheels, appropriate for 107/114/115/116/123/126.
Since these spacers press into the wheel, it may be useful to think of them as modifications to the wheel, rather than as modifications of the hub. Last edited by Frank Reiner; 07-04-2016 at 01:04 PM. |

I think the info I have is documented in this thread:

Frank and Fonzi,
Thanks for the reply. Fonzi, I did in fact read that post already but was confused by all the pics of the smaller front hubs (560?) I read it again and see the hand made ones at the end. I really thought that by now, someone would be manufacturing the correct pieces. I have a set of Ronals that I'm dying to run but maybe it's too much of a problem. Is it possible to just swap the 560 hubs for the 380's? Thanks again.

What is the ET of the wheels that you would like to use? Perhaps some pics of the inside of them? Pics have been added to my post. The design shown is correct for the 71-85 R107. |

Honestly Frank, the main reason I need the adapters is because the center caps won't fit on the wheels because the hub sticks out so far. The wheels do sit in to a degree that they don't look right, but they don't rub or anything. I bought 15mm adapters and they looked great and took care of the problem....until I hit about 70 mph, then the vibration kicked in. The wheels I have mounted now fit my 300E perfectly but just like my Ronals, they don't clear the grease cap on the SL. I have a set of chromes on my SEL that fit the SL perfect. I wind up trading them for summer use and I'm tired of that. Thanks again.
