77 450slc
I am on the verge of purchasing a 77 450slc with 99000 miles on her.She is in beautiful condition.$7500 cnd is the asking price.... Is this a good year? and are there any serious problems that it may incur?also would this be a good everyday driver?
Thanx in advance |

I think you've found something special there. The price seems right to me. '77 is a good year as it has the CIS fuel injection system which is relatively trouble free.
I've never driven an SLC but I read it's a pretty awesome chassis. As far as resale, I think the SL's will command a higher price being a convertable and all. Check the AC and cruise control; both of these systems needed work on my SL and can be pricey. I'd also get the the car into a bosch certified shop and get the CIS Fuel injection system scoped and adjusted if needed. good luck

I owned a 77SLC.
If the fuel pump is original, plan on one someday. I install a new timing chain and a new rear window seal. If the rear seal is bad, be very careful the trim is expensive. Give the vac system a good check. It's not too hard to fix with a handheld pump & gauge. I sold mine. The trunk is just as small as my 450SL. The back seat isn't too user friendly. And basically, my wife didn't like it. With the longer wheel base it's more of a highway car than the 450SL. The SL turns in a very tight circle, SLC not as tight. I think the clean SLC's will catch the SL's in price. I think there were about 10 SL's for every SLC. And the SLC is great looking! |

I like it...
In my opinion, 1977 is a good year. The catalytic converter is down stream and away from the engine. I have a 1979 and have spent my time fixing small things; not unlike any old car. (ie: wiper motor, window switch, courtesy lights, replacing the radio with a CD player, changing the rear window seal, fixing the odometer when it stopped working, sub frame bushings, lower control arm bushings, etc.)
With this car, for me, it's always fun. Fun to drive...fun to fix... Aloha,
