99 sl500 newbie/ dome light

Guys the dome light works when I switch it to on, When I open a door lights come on in foot well but not on dome.like I said I know lights work, door switch turns on foot well lights, switch is to the left side ,any ideas??

I'm not familiar with your particular model, but most M-Bs have three position switches built into the light unit. One position is "always off," another is "always on," and the third allows the light to be activated by the door switch together with the footwell lights. Try pushing on the lens portion of the lamp unit to discover the three positions or, if all else fails, consult the owner's manual.

The lens on a 97 isn't a switch and I'd expect 99 to be the same.

Only the foot and door lights work on mine and I haven't gone any farther to figure them out.

There are owners manuals online ( for free ) so dig around a bit. And please, post the results to help others.
