Changing Seat covers
I finally think it is time to change the seat covers on my '86 560 SL. They are not ripped or worn out , but the tufting is flat and although I had the seats padded I slide around too much on them. I was thinking about putting vinyl covers on them rather than the leather for the cost differential. Is this a mistake. There's an outfit in California named HMI that sells the MB Vinyl covers for $375 for the pair. Has anyone had any experience with their products? Still not sure which way to go. I thought the forum would be helpful.
Thanks to all, Larry |

I don't know about HMI but I just ordered a set of seat covers from convertibletopsonline.com from an eBay auction. The price, including shipping is $370 for the pair, including headrests. I'll post another reply once I receive the covers to let you know what I think of the quality.
Good luck. |

I purchased MB TEX vinyl seat covers from convrtibletops.com 2/02
the quality seemed good and the installer did agreat job. I paid $350 for covers and $250 for the install. The seats look better than the car (1973) 450 sl-----(restoration in progess) |

Just received my seat covers from convertibletopsonline.com. I'm going to do them myself this weekend. I'll post to let you know how it goes. They look great in the box though.

Tried to install the seat covers I got from convertibletopsonline.com. Was getting a little difficult so I called a local furniture upholstery shop to see what they would charge me to put the covers on the seats (I'd already removed the seats and dismantled them - which took about 1.5 hours). They quoted me $50 per seat. I rushed right over and picked them up the next day. They look awesome. Best $100 bucks I've spent.
