I Have an 81 380SL and I need a conderser for the AC (Mine cracked) ? must I use the unit for the 380SL or will anything else fit???

If you want it to bolt in, you need the one for the 380. If you don't mind some hose fabrication, you can put in anything that will fit in the space. There's a performance improvement to be gained by upgrading to a parallel flow condenser if you live in a hot climate.

HI HMB ,You do know our hosts sells a very good Receiver dryer for your car
for about $25, Behr,is a good product.
Also you should never use a second hand dryer,always new,
and sorry Diseasel, 300, using or fitting a dryer parrallel for better flow
is not correct, thats why you will note that most manufacturers reccommend
vertical mount.
I remember fitting a dryer a few years back from our host ,for Porsche 911,one
that i actually fitted to my 450 SL i owned,and it was about $29, and it worked well for years.

Uhh.....I wasn't talking about the filter-dryer nor was anyone else in this thread, I was referring to the condenser coil which the OP asked about. ALL cars built since the early-mid 90s use a parallel flow condenser. The format has also made its way into refrigeration and HVAC applications due to the much higher efficiency with modern refrigerants. The old series-flow (serpentine) coils that these 80s cars came with were fine with R12, but when converting to R134a there is a large benefit to be gained by converting to a modern condenser.

The condenser has nothing to do with the filter/drier, that's a separate item that is installed after the condenser.

I have a used AC Condenser for you Car. It was in my 1982 380 SL so it will match up with no problems. There are no leaks in it and was tested with no issues to be found. Let me know if you are interested.
