loud exhaust
The first thing to check for is there an exhaust leak somewhere in the system. Have the mechanic put the car on a lift and with the engine running check to see if there's exhaust leaking(I bet there is). If not find out if the mechanic put on a quality exhaust system. Cheaper units usually scrimpt on the baffles that are put in a muffler. The fewer the baffles the louder the noise.
A week ago , I repalced the muffler on my '86 560 Sl due to the baffles rattling around (The cost $400.). and the mechanic explained the cheaper exhaust vs. the more expensive exhaust as to what sounds I would hear.
