Question Exhaust system for 107 model

I just put a 5.0 litre into my 81 380 SL. I got problem with my exhaust system. I had to modified the exhaust manifolds to match the exhaust ports, everything else works great. I took the car to a muffler shop to extend the pipes for temporary use. The right pipe got 1.5" extended from the vertical portion just below the pre-catalytic converter to clear the chassis, and the left pipe got 2" extended right before the connection to the right pipe. They go together to the main catalytic converter. My exhaust system is not really in a good shape anyway. I have looked some exhaust systems in Timevalve catalog, I cannot put 380 SL exhaust system in my car since it is short. I am interested in 560 SL system in which the left pipe is curved under the transmission . My question is if I put a 560 SL system in my car, do I encounter any problems? Thank you!

By the way, my car accelerates very fast at the stop to cruise speed. I get around 15 miles/gallon.

I don't really know the answer. However, I'm curious. Did you put a Euro 5.0 from a 500SL/SEC/SEL?

Any pictures?

I put the 5.0 from a 500SE. The difference is SL model uses one piece oil pan while SEL, SE, and SEC use two piece oil pan. I had to keep my one piece oil pan. The hole paterns and everything else are the same. 117 engines are about 1" higher and the top 2" wider than 116 engines but they fit into 380SL's without any problems. Exhaust for 107

I have a 1982 380SL with a 1986 560 SEL engine and trans. I have a stock 560 exhaust system that comes up about 1 to 1 1/2 inches short at the back but was able to stretch the rubber hangers back enough to catch the hooks.

I was wondering if you had any trouble with the idle control when you swapped engines. I had to change the 560 idle valve to match the 380 idle control unit to get the engine to idle down properly.

Thank you Rayson! I will get one 560 SL exhaust system and put it in soon. The worst case, I will extend the tips and make new hooks to match the chassis.

I didn't have any problems with the idle speed. It is about 600 rpm and very stable even when shifted. I didn't change the idle valve and the control unit. The only thing I changed was the intake manifold since 3.8 intake ports are smaller than 5.0.

I tried to email you directlywith this question but am not sure that you got, so forgive me if this is a repeat.

What radiator did you use with your engine swap? Did you leave the 380 or did you change to the 500. My engine had been changed before I bought the car and the previous owner said that they tried to put in the 560 SEL radiator but it would not fit.

In stop and go traffic my car heats up to 100c but will drop back to just above 80c which I assume is where it should be. I really do not know if this is normal but it just does not seem right. I am trying to find out if the 560SL radiator would fit the 83 107 frame but so far no one seems to know.

Any help or suggestions woulf be greatly appreciated.
