I just inherited a mint 1976 450 SEL!!

Hello All,
I just inherited from my old man a 46,000 mile mint condition 450 SEL..circa 1976. I have it because my Dad understands my meticulous nature when ity comes to cars...I currently own a 1997 BMW 328is that has been modified with a SS exhaust, ECIS cold air intake and Jim Conforti software.

My question is why are there no real forums for the W116?...I am learning about this car so if anything sounds ignorant it is because I have been nose deep in bimmers for the last 6 years.

Where can I find service intervals and types of oil people use etc?

I plan on keeping this beautiful car for a looong time.

thanks,
Robert

ps. any other advice/help will be appreciated.

You know the drill...post some pics!

Seriously, we could have a forum for every conceivable model, (and the topic does come up often). Usually, a certain model prevails when it gets a lion's share of server space on the "Tech Help" forum. Funny though, with the number of W124 owners we have here, we managed to quell the need for a W124 forum...

After the grassroots effort, MercedesShop has culminated into the forum topics you now see available. Trouble is, if your Mercedes interests span several models, you are forced to surf through several forums to learn or dispense advice.

If you see my sig, I can easily want to hit four or more of the forums on a regular basis...but since MercedesShop is my home page, I am usually on-line for the entire day, so I can casually surf.

Your first visit should be in "Tech Help". You will reach the largest proportion of forum members there. Based on the model year, the "Vintage Mercedes" forum would probably be the next place to obtain advice about your new acquisition.

Good Luck!

I started this thread on 116's a while ago:

What happened to all the W116 - '73-'80 450 SEL's?

Try posting there and see if you get any responses from other 116 owners.

I've also noticed that there are few 116 owners that post here. Maybe its because the cars are so good they never break.

I assume that you all ready know this since you posted in this forum, but your car has the same engine as the 450SL, so you may be able to pick up a few tidbits here too.

Congrats on the new car, and let's see those pics!

If you plan to improve upon the fine 450 sel you may be interested in a set of euro cams I imported from Germany for 450sel/sl; reputedly euro cams are good for anohter 30-40- HP with some exhaust mods.
