Soft Top seal replacement

This may seem like a stupid question but...

I recently bought new seals for my soft top (door window top and rear). The top window seal is one piece end to end. Every time I lower the top, the seal pops out of the channel at the separation in the frame. The old seal was either cut or torn or came in two pieces. Is it supposed to be in two pieces or am I missing something in the installation?

Any and all help is appreciated!!

window seals

My 76 450 SL has the top seals in 2 pieces, and that would make sense as when you fold the top down the seal must seperate somewhat. You might check the World Upholstry & Trim site, they usually have a drawing showing the individual components
Good Luck
Bob

The top window seal for the soft top comes in one piece, but it's intended for you to cut it into two pieces. Make sure it fits the entire area tightly. After fitting mine, I had about an inch leftover.

Also, use 3M Weatherstrip adhesive to glue it in.

If possible, I'd park near a similar car while your doing it so you can see where and how the cuts are made. The lengths and angles have to be pretty exact in order to seat right. If they're a little off, the rubber will bind and pull out when you fold the top up and down.
