Transmission question

Hi all I recently purchased a 1987 560SL immaculate condition original paint.I had the usual pre inspection and my tech showed
me a transmission leak that to be corrected would have to take
the motor and tranny apart and reseal plus a new rear main seal.
I love this car, you might say I had a mid life crissis if you ask my wife but nobody was hurt.Any way are these transmissions fairly
reliable? If you had to rebuild what would it cost? Thanks Stan

I recently had a rebuild done on my '79 tranny that was leaking as yours. My tranny is the 3-speed but it cost around $1400 for the rebuild and around $500 for labor to take out and install.
