1985 280SL rpm too high, how to adjust?

My 280SL runs rather high. At park around 1500rpm when cold slows a little bit when warm buy not much. In drive it goes down to about 1000-1200. It seems rather high. Is there an adjustment? Just bought it not long ago.
thx

I heard that this is normal for all the SL's because they have a coldstart feature that automatically adjusts the RPM's in order to warm up the engine and whatnot. Try driving it around for 5-10 min. if it is still above 1000 then you might have a prob, but it should calm down after it's warm enough

RPM

I have a 560, but the idle is 550 warm and very smooth at this RPM. Summertime cold start is 1000 RPM's for 3-4 seconds. This morning was 30 degrees and the cold start was 1200 for maybe 8-10 seconds and then right down. I do not believe it should idle that high.

Good Luck,

BD
