Top speed with top down (the REAL test)
Maybe I missed it, but the other thread about top speed seemed to only include "hardtop on" reports.
What's a 107 like at over 100mph with the soft top DOWN? Does it get better as you approach 120mph? Can you keep a hat on? Will it break the side windows off if you leave them up? How many days before you can hear normal conversation again? Last edited by M D Nugent; 12-08-2002 at 02:55 PM. |

Dunno about a 107 - but the 129 is fine at speeds over 100mph - and with the optional wind deflector you can even hold a conversation quite easily at 110
With no deflector and kids in the rear jump seats - they moan like mad at anything over 60 !! Mark |

Last summer I drove my 1998 SL500 with the top down and the wind deflector up at 220 km/hour, which is 137 miles/hour. I believe that was absolute maximum for the top down. The wind resistance did not allow the car to go any faster.
