Question What do you think of this 450SLC?

Hi,

What do you think of this SLC? It seems to have a lot more rust than it seems...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6331&item=1875506949

The wood looks good and maybe if it sells for cheap a nice respray would make it pretty again wouldn't it?

I like this car... and I've seen a few for sale around here relatively cheap ... because of the pretty rust spots...

Are these things money pits?
I might just give the car a look over..

hi holson

just an opinion and it's for free so take this with a grain of salt: my rule is any car from the rust belt where salt is used must be seen in person. believe nothing of what you're told and only half of what you see is how i approach vehicles. specially on ebay.

now a few repairs i see are: yes the rust spots. you can cover with chrome wheel way covers but the rust must be stopped completely or it will continue to cancer up. the one taped up side may be really bad.

seats, the driver side must have the inside padding replaced also it looked a mite scuffed up but they do look salvageable . the wood didn't look bad but you don't just recoat. talk to some experts of what it takes.

and of course you'll probably need what i'm learning to be is the normal mbz 100,000 mile engine make over.

now if you're handy with this stuff and the price ends up right you may have a keeper here.

you're the only one that knows what you are willing to spend and the time you want it done in.

i say rationalize before you bid then hold to it. don't get personally involved unless you fully understand what you may be getting into.

good luck i hope this one works out.

Holson Adi,
Check out Sept issue of Mercedes Enthusiast. There was an article on the 107, and it pretty much sums up the 107 is a fantastic car for the money. Door bottoms, sills and suspension mounting points are common rust spots. According to the magazine, check the rear valance where rusts are more problem than the surface rust, subframe and engine mounts also need to be checked out. Good luck.

I will probably go look at the car today or tomorrow depending on my mood. I was thinking that the rust behind the tape is pretty bad. However we shall see

At $1500 and if all that it needs is a repaint and some surface rust repair then great I could repaint it diamond blue or silver again.

Somehow the car looks funny compared to Deltacom's great looking 500SLC. Maybe its the DOT bumpers....

Oh...

this engine needs its valves adjusted regularly right?
It's an iron block V-8 4.5l with a 3-speed Auto trans?

Yeah I have that issue, I'm gonna read that article again.

The salesperson told me that the A/C works but he wouldn't guarantee that it's been maintained and free of accidents just because it's a trade in.

Doesn't the ACC use the dreaded $900 servo too?

Looked at the car.. it has way too much rust. The paint is really rough (a really bad repaint). The engine idled really high....

the seller told me that the exhaust is not OEM and is a lil louder than OEM MB.

Sure enough.. it sounded like a Mustang 5.0...

Oh well I thought I found a diamond in the rough.
