glove box light /450sl/1973
I purchased a glove box light with the removal flashlight but the connection doesn't fit. Can someone show or tell me where to find the right wires inthe car. Or did I get the wrong light.

I do know that Zeggate's on the right track; there was a removeable rechargeable flashlight in the glovebox as a standard item on the early 107's (mentioned in the first Road & Track test). I think it left the scene when the courtesy lights on the windshield header appeared. What I don't know is the hookup; someone with an early 107 to the rescue?

I have a 1977 450slc US model that has both the light over the mirroe and a removable one in the glove box. The one in the box doesn't work but I haven't really looked into it. I am sure that what ever batteries are in it are long out of juice and production.

interesting, because I don't have lights above the mirror, and I don't have a flashlight either. I guess they got lazy/cheap in 1978.

I'm the owner of two early 350SL's (euro versions) '71 and '73 - flashlights in both but of course neither work. When you say you purchased a new glovebox light did you mean the regular flush mounted lamp or a new flashlight? Would love to replace these dead flashlights if new ones are available.

The flush mounted light is the same fixture as the interior lights on the windshield header. You can get those at the dealer for just a few bucks each. Part # 126-820-13-01. Obviously wiring might be a challenge.

Where did you buy your light? I got mine from the dealer about a year ago, for about $30 and I just unplugged the old and plugged in the new.
I broke open the old light and there is no way to replace the battery. The hole in the cardboard glovebox does get worn and loose and I think there is a brass clip on 1 side of it but the plug and wire should be there, pull the glove box to find it. jerryb |

chevy glovebox light switch
This is a combinatin light-switch. from Chevrolet (plastic, has light bulb, simple push type (operates closedwhen glove door shut) You glue this to lid of glove compartment so that door rests on switch . You have to wire up the switch to the wires that exist (remove mercedes flashlight and throw away!) where flaslight was. This has worked for last 5 years Regads, Abe G

abe g,
Did you get it at a chevy dealer? Don't they need to know which car (model and year) in order to pull the right part from their shelf. If I simply tell them I need a chevy glove box light they probably can't help me. Maybe you bought yours from an aftermarket or salvage yard and you don't remember the model car it came out of?
