brake pads

Hey guys, I was just wondering... I replaced my brake pads last year, and when I got them, they weren't drilled for the sensor, so I had to take the sensors out. I was wondering how long I should expect them to last, and when I would expect to replace them. (in case any of you need new pads on your 107, it's a 10 min job... really easy.)

That's a trick question, because of the various parameters involved. Pad manufacturer, disc condition, brake usage, etc.

You can go through a set of pads doing an open-track afternoon. Aggressive driving shortens pad life considerably.

Some pads have a harder compound than others and brake dust is a telltale sign of such.

Worn or warped discs can shorten the life of a pad over one seated against a good disc. The heavier SLs (450 560) probably eat up pads a bit faster due to curb weight...and if you have oversize rims, their extra rolling weight can also contribute.

I've only used Pagid pads, and for all of my MBs, pad life seems to hover around 15-20K. But Pagids are a soft compound, and since yours don't have facilities for a sensor, I am guessing they are not.

Still, without a brake pad indicator, you can still pull the wheels periodically and inspect. If it appears to have 20% or less meat left (especially in the front), it's time to replace them.
