Convertible top adjustments
How does one, other than delivering to the dealership, adjust the seating of the convertible top? I had a new top installed on my 96 SL500. I did not pay close attention to the original top, however, it appears the left side extreme rear corner where the latch mechanism pulls down is < 1/16" higher than the right side rear corner.
The right side rear corner appears to come all the way down to the vehicle. I also notice air noise coming from the drivers side where the top does not seal to the side of the vehicle. Just making sure my baby is right! Any help would be appreciated! |

Try re-fitting your new top. The dealer told me that sometimes you don't always get a good seal.

By re-seating I understnd you to say take back to the dealer and have them refit the top?

I'm sorry, I've been totally dumb; I thought you were referring to the hard top, when obviously you mean the convertible soft top. Duh. Not much help, I'm afraid.
But if the new top was fitted recently, I'd go back to the fitting dealer.

To make adjust fitting of cloth top...
... flip the top up to a position (near vertical) where there is ample slack to slide and shimmy cloth across inner metal frames. Then drop back down to see if it is a better fit. You may have to repeat the process more than once until a near perfect fit is achieved.
