Anyone Replaced a 107 Soft Top
With spring finally arrived in DC, I checked out the Wayward Woman's soft top situation. The mechanism had some badly bent pieces and a broken lever. I have fixed these problems and the mechanism is now working, but the top itself is toast.
BTW - all of the top mechanism's parts are available from MB, but horrendously expensive even by dealer parts standards. The little pivoting lever about an inch long was $40. A new in-the-box top from Adsit came with the car, and I am contemplating installing it myself. The instructions on the CD are less than clear. Any experience or suggestions? Is this a DIY, or take it to a shop job? TIA

Definitely do a search in this forum and the Tech Help forum. I've posted on a number of threads about this in the past year or so.
The short answer is if you can get a GOOD shop to install it for about $250, it's probably worth it. I never priced installation only, so I'm not sure what to expect there. You can do it yourself (with some help) if you're reasonably handy.

Thanks!
Thanks to all for pointing out the post on this. It came up when I did a search, but I passed because the title referred to the rear window.
There is a real difference of opinion as to whether or not this is a DIY or not. Given my past difficulties with wallpaper, I think I'll stick to mechanical stuff and farm this one out. Thanks again.

I also recommend a GOOD shop to do the work. See the attached thread for instructions on how to replace the top and you'll see why it's worth the money to have a pro do it. Best of luck. BOB

Progress!
My $40 one-inch lever and $7 screw came in (still can't believe the prices), so I installed them, put a little lithium grease on the pivot points, and put the whole thing back in the car. I was then able to raise and fasten with the old top on, which I guess is the first step in installing the new one.

Even More Progress
This weekend I started to take the old top off, and after about 15 minutes decided that this was not a good fit for my time and talents. I was getting frustrated with the removal process.
So as we speak, the car and new top are in the hands of Lim's Auto Upholstery in Tyson's, whom everyone recommended. Will post a picture.
