Fuel Accumulator replacement: question
86 560 SL
I have the part and I can see the old accumulator easily... On this forum, people mention "pinching" off the lines around the accumulator so as not to spray fuel everywhere. Problem is that the fuel lines around my accumulator are HARD... ie, they can't be compressed. So how do you do this without spraying fuel everywhere? Thanks |

Do what I did. I siphoned as much gas out of the tank as I could, then I had an empty 5 gallon can handy when I detached the hose on the fuel accumulator that goes to the elbow fitting. There should be enough hose to direct the gas into the 5 gallon can. Let it drain completely (hopefully you have less than 5 gallons or more than one can).
Once the tank is empty, replace all of the rubber hoses. There's 5 total. One is sold by the meter only. You only need a few inches of it and it's the most expensive hose. Tank to elbow fitting Elbow fitting to fuel accumulator Elbow fitting to fuel pump Fuel pump to fuel pump (mostly metal, but one end has rubber) Fuel Filter to fuel line I've got an extra elbow fitting to accumulator hose and I've also got one meter (minus two or three inches) of the elbow fitting to fuel pump hose.
