Question changing bulbs on 1991 500sl

Hi all,

I was wonderig if anyone knows what steps to take to replace the bulbs in the fog lights. I also would like to change the headlight bulbs but I'm not sure what to do about the passanger side (the windsheild fluid reservoir is in the way). Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, I'm pretty handy so the steps dont have to be toooooo detailed, just enough to get me there. Thanks

Can't help you with the fogs, but the passenger side headlight I learned the hard way. The windscreen washer bottle lifts out. First you have to undo a retaining "nut" which keeps it in place. As you stand in front of the car, this is on the right hand side of the washer bottle, a couple of inches down. You can use your hand, no need for a spanner. Took me ages to work this out as it is not in the manual.

Nice car, btw.

Wow, thanks for the quick response, I'm lovin this forum more and more....

ya, I noticed the wingnut that retained the bottle and spun it off. But since it didn't slide out I thought there might be another nut or something in an area I couldn't see. After removing the nut, the bottle still seems to want to stay in there, should I pull on it in an upward motion? How about the re-insertion when complete, should I anticipate a difficult task?

It is actually quite easy. The bottle slides up and down on a big spike type of thing. If you gently ease it up, perhaps shaking it from side to side slightly, being careful of the various wires and pipes that come out of it, you should be OK.

Thanks, I successfully changed both bulbs and they look great! It was relatively easy too!!
Now all I need is to change the fog light bulbs, anyone have experience with this?
