Where do you guys put all your cars?
Reading through this forum I see some posters have several cars - some more - listed under their sig.
Now, figuring that even the best above-average home only has a 3-car garage, max, where do the rest get put? I thought my wife and I were car heavy, owning 4 cars between the 2 of us. (But our Honda is being loaned by our daughter, so there's one down!) Our problem is that we 'only' have a 2-car garage, and by virtue of the fact that the two best cars should be garaged, my wife's MX5 sits outside in the driveway. That's not good for a soft-top automobile I know, but there's not much alternative. But I'm curious to know where everyone puts theirs. I have a two car garage for three cars. My 500 and my Toyota MR2 sleep inside and my winter car sits in the drive. I always put the 500 inside as I have major trees which will leave a fine green pollen dust on my black 500 within a half an hour.

House has attached two-car garage. Never room for all the cars (five total). My new 24x36, three-bay garage is about 80% complete. Should have been done a month ago, but weather has played havoc with the contractor. Should put the shingles and siding on this week. Has 10 foot ceiling, and 9x36 storage trusses for lots of "junk" upstairs. Have wanted this for years, but knew it would put my house out of the market price wise for the neighborhood (garage costs $30K with everything-siding, brick, driveway to back of house, gas hookup). Finally decided I wasn't moving anywhere for probably another 10-15 years (when I retire the "next time", so decided to build it. If this post is still going, I'll put up a pic when it's done.

Thanks for the information so far.
Darrell - your situation interests me because I'm in much the same position... adding a third garage is not practical, and is expensive, as you've said. And it would have to go on the other side of the house too. Would look funny and as a result won't increase my home's value appreciably. The only answer is to move I guess. That's a question that's about to come to a head at my house. We have a two car garage with one side permanently occupied by my "garage queen" Lincoln Mark III that cannot be exposed to too much moisture. I'm trying to slow the rust until I have the funds to do a righteous strip down, prime and paint. My wife has graciously allowed me to replace her Camry in the other bay with my SL beuause the top leaks and I have not yet made it to the top shop to replace it. Eventually she'll figure out that I've been stalling in that regard because I like my SL in the garage! She's fine with it for now, but in a few months it will be cold. Like I said. It's about to come to a head at my house. I have the room for another garage. but not the $$ to build it yet.
I've seen these cloth carports for $900 in Hemmings. Some have a front flap. Perhaps they're enough to keep snow from piling up and adding a good car cover can keep direct sunlight off. Good luck with your situation!

I just leave them outside.
We have between 5 and 7 cars at home at any one time and we haven't got any garaging. They never come to any harm.

We have a three-car garage, and that's where all of the MBs reside...
...so the VW sits outside. It only took a couple of years of Texas weather to destroy the paint and interior...

We have the MB and one SUV inside -- another SUV (my winter drive) outside at the end of the driveway.
One thing that puzzles me is the notion that a car is "garage kept" -- it occurred to me that during the day -- when the sun is out -- my cars are either in outdoor parking lots or on the road. During the night, when its dark and cool -- the cars are in the garage (well 2 out of 3 are). Are we keeping our cars out during the harshest part of the day and "protecting" them when they least need protection?

My house has a two car attached garage and a two car detached garage - and I have one indoor climate controlled space at my office.
My self imposed rule is that I can't own any more cars than I have garage spaces in which to store them! - michael '98 SL500 '98 Dodge Durango '94 Infiniti Q45a '83 Ford F250 w/plow '80 Spitfire all stored indoors |

Both 560's get the garage (wife's SL and my SEL). Daughter's 300E gets the far end of one side of the two lane driveway. Old 300D and two SUVs just get the street. I've just gotta get rid of some of these cars! (and then wife wants me to get her something like a stick shift 300E for winter).

Here's an alternative to the garaging problem. I saw it this afternoon while talking to a non-MB dealer... they were displaying an immaculate, older Porsche 911 in the center of their showroom.
When I asked the price, the salesman told me it was not really for sale, but the owner lends it out to the dealership for display. Occasionally the owner might come in and drive it for a day or two, then return it, or leave it there when he's overseas. So it works both ways - the owner gets free and secure garaging, and the dealer gets lots of interest from potential buyers. I won't take credit for this one, I'll just point ya to it. This one is worthy of my wife-a very smart, good looking blond(only her taste in husbands can be questioned).

Finally got the garage finished (well, still no electric or heat, but that's coming this weekend ). It's a three bay, and I have an attached 2-car. Using higher math, that's five slots. Hmmm, just purchased a '93 BMW 740i. O.K., I can turn two sideways and easily fit four cars in the new garage. Still not sure why I bought a BMW instead of a Mercedes. It may have to go. We'll see. The "collection" as of now: 93 740i; 89 260E; 75 450SL; 96 Land Rover; 88 RX7 Convertible; 90 Silverado "mulch hauler".
