Lowmile what is it worth?

Is it really all worth it? I refinished my SL Lowmiler to concurs quality. And now my wife said that she feel's like we should not sell the car for what I think... is a fair amount of money. ? What is a fair amount? Mileage is everything, but you have to find the right collector for the car. How often is someone gonig to offer twice what you paid and have in the car? I am having fun looking at new toy's to buy with the windfall of money. My question is how much is fair?
The car is as new 23,000 Miles 1972 350SL

You certainly have a car that many of us would probably like to own, especially me, but like me probably just cannot come up with the cash.

If it was mine and I wanted to sell it I would put it on EBay with a high reserve just to see what happens. Who knows you may get the price you want. I doubt there are many out there like yours with such low mileage.

Thanks CBDO that is an even handed car. That makes three 350SL that I know of in the world with under 28 thousand mile's.
That one and the two that Bill Knauz own. A brown twenty eight thousand mile one. And the sand beige one 23,600 ? that I just sold him.

Thanks for the idea of E-bay but I think the car is being picked up by a local collector next week. It is time to look for a lowmile 280 SL. My wife alway's wanted one, she used to drive to high school in one her dad won the 280 in a poker game.

Wow -- that happened fast! Congratulations -- you probably made a great deal, you can probably see the car when you want and you made a great connection with the buyer (I hope). You should be proud of your work on the car and the fact that it will never be anything but a "lowmile".


On a personal note, one of the guys at Bart's barber shop told me, as I sat for a haircut on Saturday, that he liked my car and that it looked a lot like a car one of his customers recently brought by -- he described yours to perfection -- I told him that I know you through the forum. -- small world.

But, Lowmile, I still can't resist trying once more to plant a mental seed. Having an SL that you actually live with and drive every day (through the season, anyway) is way too good to miss. Get yourselves a 113 or 107 that is good but NOT museum quality and enjoy it!
I'm done with my work day, just about ready to go home, and Herr Panzerwagen is at the back door waiting to take me there. Slipping into the cockpit and firing it up is way too therapeutic to reserve for special occasions.

Way less than $65K; the 107 just isn't rare enough or exotic enough to draw that kind of tab. He may have enjoyed the project, and have the resources to indulge it, but he's greatly overrestored for any economic purpose.
The cars referred to above in the mid-20's are about as high as I can conceive it getting for this vehicle.

Having an SL that you actually live with and drive every day (through the season, anyway) is way too good to miss.

My wife and I just hung a bike rack on the back of our car and took a 500 mile weekend river road trip.
We don't keep our paintings in a safe either.

I will miss my 107 but I like money also. Here we go again....I flew to the south and bought another lowmile SL not as low as the last one but really quite nice shape, I will post picture's soon. I have been hangin out on the 113 Pagoda web site lately as my new/old car is a papyrus white 1969 280SL close ratio four speed with blue MB Tex interior. Wow... part's are expensive for the 113. But.. wow... is this car fun to drive (very fast.) More before picture's later. Hey Dan say hello to Bart and Elias for me it is a small world I helped wire that barber shop with my dad. Bart has been my barber for almost twenty years! I should show you my new lowmiler.

What a life! I was sad to see that lovely R107 go, but when you have a Pagoda come in to replace it... I'm really looking forward to seeing your progress, please keep us posted with pictures and updates, before and after.

So do you do this for a living, or for a hobby? How many cars do you do a year? And forgive me for asking, but do you make a profit on the cars? because you did some pretty expensive paintwork on the 107. I always thought restoring a car was not profitable. But I suppose if you do the work yourself and strip and rebuild, rather than replace parts, it might be viable. I'd love to do something like this.

Congratulations -- the sneak peak looks good -- I have always loved that model (however I am not brave enough to have a car that old and with such expensive parts!)-- there are great scenes of a Pagoda in the movie 10 -- Julie Andrews drives one -- you should stick around for the Bo Derek scenes too (by the way, there are great scenes of a 380sl in the movie Body Double, for those interested)

I assume that you'll see the guys at Bart's before I will since I got my haircut more recently than you!

Love to see the car in person -- maybe a mini get-together before it snows!
