W129 driver window or hardtop adjustment?

Shutting the drivers door requires a good slam due to either: 1) The window being too high, or 2) The hardtop being too low. You can actually see the window pushing the hardtop up as the door is forcefully shut. This problem is also evident with the softtop, but less pronounced.

A search of this topic yielded some hardtop adjustment info on earlier models, but nothing specific for the w129.

I was wondering if the A-pillar rubber seats/seals fatigue or develope a "collapsed" memory over time... My '94 is 10 years old already!

Somewhat related... I replaced the drivers-side door check strap yesterday. Wow, what a difference an hour and $23 can make! The smooth solid air-tight thump of a new Mercedes door shut is back!. Now that the door panel is off, I thought this might be a good time to make any possible window adjustments....

Any help is appreciated!

Crew

I am not making this up.

About six months ago Sports Car Market did a sort of long-term owner report on a 500SL. In it, the guy reported that the had to have the windows adjusted when he put the hardtop on.

When the doors are opened, the windows should drop down about 3/8 of an inch. When you shut the doors, the windows should go up to their max position. It sounds like you have a problem there for sure.

The door window prompter sometimes needs to be reset. The procedure is set out in the owner's manual.

I thought the door window prompter mechanism was installed in 1995 and later models... But I will check the manual.

Thanks guys!

My '93 hasn't a door window prompter - but I wish it did!

I have to open the drivers window a little every time my Mrs gets in as she ALWAYS (for some reason) cannot close the passenger door the first time. Second or third time if she' lucky!

There are adjustments for the window. if you take off the door panel, there are 10mm bolts up near the top of the door on the front and rear of the door, they are window stops which are adjustable. you can lower them slightly and the window will be slightly lower thus easier to close the door.

Thanks for the info! This should do the trick. Because, only the front leading edge of the window needs to be indexed down 2-3mm... The rear edge of the window is fine.

Thanks!
