Unhappy 107 Hardtop plastic buffer washers

I bought 4 of the plastic buffer washers that fit somehow on the hardtop mounting points. My only question is how, and do they fit on ALL of the mounting points or just the ones behind the seats at the pillars?

When I got the car the windshield-mounted washers were discolored, cracked, and one had a piece missing. I replaced them with washers from Perfomance Products. Perhaps your windshield-mounted washers were lost along the way.

I bought some from Performance Products too, (clear rubber grommets?) but could not get mine in (where top attaches at front). They seemed too large for the cut-outs in the steel.
Is there a trick to installing these?

I couldn't figure it out either. So I laid the washers over the holes and cranked the soft top down. I've had the top up and down many times over the past few years. The washers are still there. And don't blow off at highway speeds with the top down.

107 Hardtop washers

On my 83 280SL I got replacements from the local MB dealer. The washers look too big, but there is a space (right wording to use here???) below the steel at the top of windshield and a groove on the outside of the washers, I squeezed it to start one side and worked my way around - perfect fit.

I asked the MB service dept if there should be washers on the rear posts of the hardtop, they told me no. But, now I get a rattle from the rear of the top when hitting a bump on road. Seems like it should have these washers at the rear as well???
