1986 560sl interior temp sensor

My interior temp sensor broke today. I am not sure what happend but it simply stopped working. The needle is all the way to the left and will not budge. It has worked effortlessly through the years.

Is there a fuse that could have gone? If not, what can I do to get this thing working again..the small things bug me so I MUST fix.

The problem is on my 86 560sl.

Thanks!!

Rob, one point on netiquette. This is one of three spots you posted the same question; normally, one might post in one spot and wait a day or two before crossing to other threads or boards. Don't get too impatient; most of us posting here have day jobs!

temp sensor

Needle for interior temp sensor? The interior temp sensor is the the little square thing on the top center of the dash and is connected via hose to the climate control unit. There is no needle. There is an outside temp gauge in one of the pods on the dash with a needle. I happen to have an extra one, if yours is dead, I can sell it to you.
Regards, lawrence.

on the SL there is a circular thermometer that is connected to a thermometer behind the front license plate. The internal temp guage has a needle and it shows, in celsius, the external temp. @ 32 the needle is straight up @ 0. I am talking about the outside temp guage(I just reread your post)

I have found that the problem is in the #7 fuse..it KEEPS blowing..each time I replace it blows when I turn the ignition.

I took the car through a touchless (pressure) wash yesterday. I wonder if any water got somewhere and is now causing a short.

interior temp gauge

It would seem very likely that the carwash and the short are related.
The interior temp sensor, located in the center of the dash board, measures the interior temperature, and is used by the automatic climate control. The dash gauge for the exterior temperature, uses the exterior temperature on the front licence plate. I guess we are just talking semantics, I know what you mean now.
Maybe try to trace some wiring around the exterior temp sensor and see if anything is loose. Good luck.
Regards, Lawrence.
