I believe that it will fit only in lenth and width. It is too tall. I suppose you could use it if you don't put the battery compartment cover on. Measure carefully, then decide.

You're right, the Optima red top #34 is 1 inch too tall. The exact replacement is the Interstate MTP 93 with 1000 cranking amps vs Optima 's 980 CA. But the Interstate is 13 lbs heavier and I also like the ruggedness of the Optima..

Yes, I too would prefer the Optima battery. I like the spiral plate design as well as the jelled electrolyte. It doesn't self dicharge very fast and you don't need to worry about it freezing over the winter. ( I store my car in Wisconsin ). But when I needed a battery, SEARS had a sale on their international model for about $80, so that's what I now have. I had the Interstate battery, but it failed after only 3 years. The pro-rated warranty wasn't worth much. The Interstate battery dealer tried to blame it on the car, but as an electrical engineer, I knew better. Generally any lead acid battery will last 5 to 6 years, and they last the longest when frequently stressed ( or at least deep cycled from time to time ). A battery that just sits around on a float charge will have the shortest life span. And, in my experience, over charging will kill a new battery the fastest. Tod
