560 clunking into reverse

When shifting from park to reverse, I've noticed my 560 has been sort of clunking into reverse. Is this normal? It has been pretty cold in CT, 20 degrees or so. I noticed that the idle valve had a loose connection which caused the rpm's to get up to around 1800. When I reconnected the electrical plug the idle settled back down to 800 when in gear and 1000 in neutral. Could this have anything to do with the reverse problem? Thanks

Check the driveline

I would recommend checking your driveshaft flex discs and all the bolsts connecting your transmission to the engine. Also check your fluid level. In the past with prior MB cars I have had a clunk when putting into drive or reverse from low fluid, from a worn flex disc, from bad half shafts, and when the transmission came loose from the engine after it was replaced. Check these things out! Good luck!

idle speed

Ichecked my idle speed on my car and it is about 700 in park andabout 550-600 in drive at the light. I think your idle speed could be a factor in the clunking into gear. Call your dealer and ask what your idle speed should be and go from there.

Brian,
Thanks. I had the differential mount replaced which was worn. That seems to have solved some of the problem. Only once since thenhas the idle gone above normal. Since that problem seems to be solved bydisconeecting & reconnecting the idle valve plug I'm thinking that it was getting stuck from lack of use or it's an indication that it will need to be replaced. So far so good. Thanks. Mike
