A little prob with my 380SL...
I bought this used from a private party last summer. It has had all fluids changed since I got it. Now, when ever I start it, the engine hesitiates like CRAZY and black smoke comes out. So black that it made my garaged floor black. I tried to rev it for awhile but there is still smoke so i left it idle for 10 min and it went away. I has been doin that since I got it but not recently which I am so happy but what could be the problem?? Change the oil, Tune it up, Clean or change the EGR??? Any help would be helpful

black smoke is normally a sign of the car running rich -- too much gas. You do not say how many miles the car has or what has been done to it.
If the car runs fine once it warms up then none of what you talk about doing will help. You have a problem with the cold start system in the car. It is getting too much fuel when it is cold -- the black is unburned fuel! This is someething that you will have to take to someone who knows what to look for. MB's are not cars to start throwing parts at ! |

Car has 92000 miles. I was told by my mechanic that the EGR needed replacement and that there was too much fuel as in rich. I guess you were rite. I just wanted to see if anyone else here in the forum would say something different

As far as I know, there is no EGR valve on the 85 380sl.Ive looked in all the online parts places and there is no listing. You may want to question that mechanic of yours.
