Learn from my mistake.

Although I must have read warnings about raising the soft top in cold weather a dozen times on this site -- I had a brain cramp last night.

For some reason, (I am still not sure) I decided to take the hardtop off of my 500 sl yesterday. I raised the softtop and -- CRACK -- the clear part of the top cracked.

It was just too cold to unfold the top. I am so mad at myself.

Anyway. Thought I would remind all of you out there about this. Also, if you are going to lift top -- I would do it slowly and perhaps stop a couple times in the process to give the top a chance to unfold.

Anyone know a good top guy in the Chicago area?

MG

Mike G-RIGGS BROS. has several locations in the Chicagoland area.Their Downers Grove location's phone # is (630) 852-1717. You could call there and get the #'s of their other locations if that location is not convenient for you. They replaced the top on my 380SL two years ago and were very knowledgeable and did a nice job.
