I had already got the rears done as the areas round the lugs were badly scratched. To fix them the spoke faces were properly machined with special equipment. My paint shop redid the painted areas after masking out, and the whole wheel was then clear coated.

They look just brand new, but I paid the price - about GBP80 (US$140) per wheel. Didn't even think of buying new as our prices tend to be off the scale.

You work 12 hours a day? You need that SL to bring some fun back into your life, I think!

I'm at work for 12hours most days... that doesn't mean I work for 12hours, though. I think my presence on this forum proves that.

JJ, Still not sure why you don't consider Powder coating your rims. You can replicate many colors and clear.

Also, you may want to get your hands on "wheel wax". It protects your wheels from the corrosive dust.

Additionally, I use dust covers (sheild) on my daily driver cars. I've never (ever) had a negative experience using them.

I didn't know you could get a clear powder coat: I thought it was a paint effect. I will look into this. Thanks for the tip.

As for shields, I like the look of the discs and calipers through the wheel (I've been thinking about getting the drilled discs from the silver arrow).

Has anyone any experience using different pad compounds (apparently you can get low dust pads)?

My SL500 has drilled disks. It makes an incredible low whine, like a jet engine winding down, when I brake from speed. Lovely! I go fast just to be able to hear it

Absolutely. I wasn't aware of it either, but I had my 8 hole wheels refinished, and the clear coat was powder coated.

I like the 5 spoke rims, but having had BBS rims and low profile tyres, I would suggest looking for something similar. The handling improves, but the ride does become a little harsher!

Included are 2 pics of my 500 with the BBS rims

Just remembered something that might be useful. I had a hell of a time cleaning the wheels due to the HEX Bolts. Brake dust gets in and is a ***** to clean!

Thought you might like to consider that when making up your mind.
