MPG gauge on SL 320

I had my car for over a week now, and can't help noticing the MPG guage.........it seems silly to have this on a car, considering it's MSRP so high!!!!!!!!! Anyway, it seems to me that this is actually an intake manifold vacuum guage, if one reads it in reverse.

Am I correct?

Far as I understand, you are correct. These have been on cars for many, many years.

It's not just a vacuum gauge. Notice that if you aren't moving, it reads zero mpg. A vacuum gauge would still indicate vacuum. OK, so it's not a real trip computer, but I feel it is useful. Hey, I see you are from Wisconsin and a new SL owner. Is your car white? Did I see it parked at Bally's? I saw a while SL 320 in the lot there with a dealer temp plate on it.

tecqboy: My car is red/tan 1997 SL320. I bought it in Chicago, while there for the Easter weekend, visiting family. This is my first MB!

I live the Green Bay area..........moved up here from Milwaukee 7 years ago (Hales Corners).
