Broken throttle cable
Hi
The throttle cable on my 1990 300SL M103 engine has broken. It has not actually snapped but the rubber part at the engine end has broken so it came off on the A40 (a main road in London) earlier today. The RAC came out and performed a temporary repair with a cable tie. It appears OK but the idle speed is now too high, around 1100rpm. He said this was because of the nature of the repair, he had to pull it a bit to get the tie on. My questions are 1) Is it easy to change the cable 2) What is the normal idle speed on this car, I think it was around 800rpm pre-repair. Is the cable easy to adjust/ Thanks in advance |

Hi
Sounds very similar to my cable problems - see my post on ASR! It's a very inexpensive part (25GBP) and therefore well worth changing but unfortunately I haven't got around to replacing mine so I can't comment on difficulty; however it doesn't look too difficult. If I were you I get it sorted as soon as otherwise you'll be experiencing ASR lights soon! Lea
