Rollbar light???

I know this subject has been beaten to death, but I read all of the case and seems that my case is a little unique and help would be appreciated.

Problem :

rollbar light in dash always ON.
rollbar switch flashing all the time.

the drama :

It all started my top would stop working , and then it would work again when I recycle the key (off and on without starting), due to low battery I think (from reading this forums), finally it stopped responding at all, so I went to the dealer, they hooked up the computer erase codes the usual stuff everything is fine, top works it's all good, my mechanic noticed the battery is not crancking very well , he advised changing it, so we got a new battery (mercedes) changed the battery.
As I was taking off he suggested I try the top again to make sure everything is ok. top stopped in the middle of closing, oops so I pulled back in.

we spent the whole after noon checking fuses and connections, cause the codes refused to erase. He didn't think of manually closing the roof before doing it.

So we did close the roof , hooked it up again to the laptop cleared the errors , everything works fine except now the roll bar light in the dashboard is on and the roll bar switch is falshing at all times in all roll bar positions. please note roll bar works fine via switche, havent's tested the real sensors yet.

He is suggesting the ECU is bad, I have a feeling it's not, don't wanna spend the big bucks ifd I can save my ECU.
Any ideas???

again,

everything works fine, roll bar goes up and down via switch no problems, soft top wroks fine, windows work fine up to spec they crack down when you open the door.
I'm going again to see him this weekend, and I would like to take some suggestions for him to try, before I decide to change the ECU .

thank you.

The roll bar light in the dash and the lights in the switch mean a code is currently stored. I think your mechanic should read the code, report what he finds to you, and clear the code. When it clears, the malfunction lights should go off. If the lights and the code reappear, then you do have a problem with your ECU.

Had a similiar problem 2 years ago. Two problems with my rollbar system were found after 10+ hrs of dealer shop time. (Luckily, I was only billed for 4hrs because the lead mechanic investigated and diagnosed as a time filler during the week!) (1) The rollbar ECU was found faulty ($1600 from dealer). (2) One of the rollbar rams was drawing excessive current ($3200 from dealer.) Remedy: Bought used ECU ($400.) Did not replace ram units--Rollbar deploys when activated. No error codes or fault lights illuminate.

Good Luck!

thanks , my friend works for the dealer , so he does have a used ECU ready for me if I needed it ($200.00) I'm heading over there saturday, this is when he can do side jobs at the dealer's, gonna try one more time to run diagnose and clear errors, if that doesn't work , I'm just gonna have'm install the ECU, hopefullyy that will clear the problem.I'll let you guys know how it goes and thank you for your replies.
Can someone Explain the proper procedure to change a battery without damaging the ECU , so we don't risk $1600.00 in the futur everytime we need to change the battery? , that's rediculos.

BTW you can forget about that fatboy in my sig , it was stolen out of my garage last thursday (the 14th)

Ok just came back from the shop , here are the 2 errors we got:

130 power soft top control module N52
097 Power window motor LF M10/3 Hall sensor

we cleared those errors , and I still have the blinking roll bar switch and the R/B light on in the IC.

My friend advised me to wait till he gets me a better deal on the module since everything is operable at the moment.

Any thoughts about those erros ?

Code 130: as your friend surmised, you need a new control module. If it were me, I too would wait for a better deal on a replacement. Other than the lights being on, the only consequence is your roll bar might not deploy in a roll-over. And if the roll bar light in the cluster really becomes annoying, you can always remove it.

Code 097: to clear this you will need to replace a sensor in the driver's-side door. But if the windows and top mechanism both operate properly, why bother?
