Engine temp sensor on '79 450 sl

I have a 1979 450 sl that is in good shape except for the fact that the car will not start if the engine has gotten to a running temperature. Is there anyway to remove this sensor so that I can park my car and not have to wait a couple hours for the engine to cool before I can restart it?

Thanks.

Engine temperature sensor is located on the top of the engine towards the rear of the engine on the right (passenger) side. You'll have to remove the air cleaner assembly to see it Just disconnect the wire that plugs into it. But I don't think that will resolve your problem.
