Instructions with replacement rear window (soft top) unit call for installing a new set of soft top supports "to avoid tearing the two quarter windows" due to a factory modification of 129 chassis manufactured between 1990 and 1994. Calls for MB Part Number 129 694 03 97 which is, of course, not included with the rear window assembly.
Seems to me that if the old top was fine, the replacement should be as well. Anyone had experience with this? Suggestions? I'm not certain an upholsterer would be the person to play with adding supports! The diagram that came with the replacement unit is kind of hard to read re: where the placement should be. Is this really necessary?
