300SL Windshield and tape storage

Two questions please.

1. Is the OE windshield (dealer item?) much more costly than one from a auto glass chain? Would a non-OE one effect the value of the car?

2. I understand there is a replacement open storage box for the cassette tape storage box. Does it come with a new sliding door, does it use the existing door, or is it open? How difficult is it to install? Is this a dealer item as well?

Thanks,

To answer your questions:

1. Any item from the dealer is going to be costly. You should check around first. Stay away from cheap shops, as the saying goes, you get what you pay. The only thing about the one from the dealer has the MB logo stamp on it so it matches your original one. If you want to keep the car everything original, dealer is the only way to go.

2. I believe you have to change the sliding door. As I recall, the older model that comes with the cassette holder also has the cig lighter in the front. The sliding door on those model is two pieces as opposed to the one piece sliding door for the storage/drink holder configuration. Check out Performanceproduct.com, they even have the wood sliding door.

Don't know what year you have.

Phil here got me

129 680 09 91 Cassette to map box

It replaced the Cassette holder in my 1990 500 perfectly. Not a cup holder.

24 bucks for a molded plastic, with felt(?) lining, but it fits nicely.
