I'm relatively new to this area: only one year here. Any advice?
The local dealer seems to be pretty expensive, and the only independent shop I've tried didn't have a guy who was familiar with the 123 diesel, although the shop claimed to have all MB-certified techs.

Thanks in advance.

I have vacationed and lived in southeast Florida for many years and in/out of numerous shops...I have FINALLY found an A+++ shop in southeast Florida:

ULTIMATE EURO REPAIRS
2011 SW 70th Ave.
Davie, Florida
(954)475-0225
Owner: Raul Bengolea
Location: Just South of State Road 84 - 3/4 Mile East of University Drive

The owner and his son are very knowledgeable and take the time to fully explain any problems with your vehicle as well as all available options to repair the problem. All of mechanics are very competent and thorough. And as if that wasn't enough (especially in south Florida), the prices are EXTREMELY fair.

I would HIGHLY recommend this shop to anyone in southeast Florida. I drive my vehicles almost an hour to reach this shop and it is WELL worth the drive!

Tell them Peter with the 16 valve sent you!

This directory of good shops would not be complete without naming Continental Imports in Gainesville as the best shop around. They have taken care of a 1971 Mercedes 250 sedan (still running in good condition); a 1984 BMW 528e that I sold when it had in excess of 295,000 miles; and now my recently-acquired 1992 600 SEL. The owners are active in the forum and are sponsors of this website. They are knowledgeable, honest and, as I've said in another forum, just really nice, decent people. I know that when I go to pick up my car, I have received excellent work at a fair price. They are proud of their work and of their reputation. I recommend them to anyone with a German car. (I believe they also work on Acuras and Volvos.)

We've just moved from Gatorland to the Land of the Seminole. Any input on who to trust my car to would be appreciated.

Yes I recommend Eddy's German Garage. When I am in Tallahassee and can not do the repair my self I let him do it. He is on the corner of Monroe and Tennessee. I take my car to him when I have a problem. He is reliable and good. You have to have an appointment with him it might take a week or so to fit you in but he does a good job. His prices are fair. Mercedes is just about all he works on. He used to race Mercedes. There are not a lot of places to choose from in Tallahassee. If your Benz is diesel he sells diesel he is one of a few especially downtown. If you are a student you get a 15% discount I believe. There is another German repair shop on Tennessee but I am not sure of their work I have not been there. I hope that this has been helpful to you I am sure that you will see me around the town I am one of two people in Tallahassee that I know of that has a yellow 240D.

I'm reiterating my recommendation of Continental Imports in Gainesville for anyone north of Orlando. These guys know Mercedes, do a lot of them, and have diagnostic equipment and informational resources that most shops and even most dealers just don't have!

I learned this today when my 600 SEL developed a miss and the check engine light came on. I am now about two and a half hours from Gainesville, so I called Steve Brotherton at Continental and asked him whether I should drive the car to him or whether, instead, I should get it looked at locally. He advised me to have it checked out locally rather than take a chance on the road. He even suggested a shop to take it to.

Steve's shop recommendation was on the mark and they diagnosed the problem (it was a vacuum leak) and the part is on order, but during the diagnostic process, the shop owner noted that Continental serviced many more Mercedes and that Continental had all kinds of equipment and informational that his shop just didn't have. (Not a knock on the second shop; just illustrative of how far advanced Continental is in working with Mercedes.)

To further illustrate how Continental takes care of you, Steve was in contact with the other shop owner and discussed the car's condition with him.

If Continental Imports was a hotel, it would have a 5-star rating!

Brian

Eurotech on Military, north of Okeechobee - very good MB service. Be careful with Foreign Affairs on Military, south of Okeechobee. Good AC shop Frank's AC on Okeechobee, east of Military enter between Uhaul and Taco Bell.

North Florida. From my personal experience - 82 240D
Good independent for all imports. Fair prices, good diagnostics plus rare common sense. Will install customer parts - and give advice to amateur mechanics like me. A little slow sometimes due to work overload and scheduling for just two people. 5 days a week. 9 to 6 (386)-752-0700

ULTIMATE EURO REPAIRS

I enthusiastically second the recommendation for Ultimate Euro Repairs!

Knowledgeable, Fast, Courteous, and Outstanding Service. I had a set of H&R Springs installed on my '91 560SEC as well as a set of new front shocks, steering damper, and new brake lines. I was in and out in five hours (previous estimates were 10 hours plus) and at 46% of what I had been quoted for the "springs only job" by a very reputable non-dealer shop on the west coast. (MB Dealers would not touch the "after-market" job.

I am about two hours away from Davie and the drive is well worth the time and I will drive back whenever major service is required.
