Taylor Diesel - Injector test/shim/balance in Jax, FL

Considered sending my injectors to one of the good folks on the forum that service them, but not having a fallback vehicle at the moment I started looking locally. After being told by a number of outfits that nobody in the local area could help me, I called the local dealer as a last resort. One of the techs there recommended checking with Taylor Diesel downtown as they do IP work for them. Happy day! Real nice guy answered and was extremely helpful. It's 17.50 per injector to service them and he even recommended just bringing my new nozzles along instead of putting them in myself beforehand. If their work is anything like their attitude, this definitely seems like the place to go in and around Jacksonville. Will report back after I've had mine done, might be another week or so though.

Good to hear. Keep us posted on this local resource. Where are you in Jax? I am in Ortega.

Would either of you happen to own a blue W123 with matching headlight doors? I saw one the other day here in Jax and thought it might be a forum member.

Taylor does good work. My father had some injector and IP work done there years ago back when every 6.5 on the road was having issues. We would pull in there and there would 5 or 6 Chevy/GMC's waiting for work. Most of their stuff is on the industrial side though. Mostly Medium and Heavy Duty.

I can vouch for their work. Top notch. There are a couple old timers around the shop that have "seen it all".

Wow, thanks for the info snook, sounds like I really scored with this one. I'm on the southside, near Baymeadows and San Jose. Sometimes I call her the Blue Bomber but my headlight doors are clear. It's got bad respray on it a couple shades darker than the Silver Blue it's supposed to be. Easy to pick out for the foreseeable future - no passenger seat and rust holes in the floor. Anybody know a good bodyshop or welder?

On a related note, Thursday I'm taking it to Lee and Cates off Lem Turner for a new windshield seal. Probably a new window too if/when it breaks coming out or going in (~$670 total est.). Pretty sure my water problem is almost entirely from the gaping holes in the front gasket. A guy named Walter McKinney at that particular store (manager actually) was recommended as having done installs for Brumos over the years. Seemed to know what's what, as he wants the car first thing in the a.m. and said he may have to keep it all day. He did mention using an aftermarket gasket but I said no. Hope I didn't put him off by it, but I want it super-right. Last of the PO's didn't seem to do a damned thing on this car correctly, when they bothered at all. If I knew then what I know now....

Might have been you a little while ago that passed me on Craven in front of the school heading toward Baymeadows. The driver seemed occupied with the radio or something. Now that I really look at that picture of your car in your signature I'd be surprised if it wasn't you. I did a slight double take at the time because a) it seemed in better than usual condition and b) in retrospect, the coupe look - the windows were down like in your signature pic. That didn't register at all at the time, just that something was 'different'. Well, now that I look at the pic again it seems they aren't down, but whatever!

There's also a white 300D with tinted windows and lots of soot that I've seen around this area a couple times. And several times I've spotted a white one with beige interior and no tint that's in what looks to be great condition (don't know about the blonde I've glimpsed behind the wheel). Was briefly side by side with a black 300SE on JTB the other day. I'll keep an eye out for ya!

No problem... There is another good one out in St. Augustine off of 16 on the way to U.S. 1. I can't remember the name right now. I'll see if I can look them up. They would probably be a little more knowledgeable with the light duty stuff. But, it is a little out of the way.

Far out... I grew up over In Orange Park. I was talking to someone over at the GTG about it. I moved out to Vilano Beach in St. Augustine after high school (back in the 80's). I got family all over up there... North side, West side and South side.

Reporting back finally. Taylor Diesel was all that and more. Very helpful and friendly guys. It was a slow day for them so they did them right away and I got to watch them get tested (two were streaming). Also got a little tour of the fuel related part of the shop. They have five or six of those big IP testing machines and the guy said he can work on anything but Detroit's. I am horrible with names, but the fellow who was doing the work said he had been there since '92 and the other gentleman was apparently Mr. Taylor who joked about being there since before he was an employee. Both were total class acts and they have my highest recommendation.

Lee & Cates...does not. If you are in need of glass/seal work I suggest calling Pat at Atlantic Imported Auto for a recommendation, assuming he doesn't do it himself.

Pat at atlantic imported is an OK guy but I always felt he wasn't honest to us. I would really hesitate to go back to him again. I do all of my own repairs and services now.

Wow, thanks for the heads-up. First negative report I've heard about that place.

I guess L&C wasn't SO bad as far as the end product. I spent a couple hours shooting polyurethane sealant under the seals though rather than drive back to the Northside to have them stop it leaking in the rear. Did the front too assuming the worst. Biggest problem is the actual installer guy (not the same dude as was recommended, guess he's non-tech manager type now) wasn't completely honest about the rust he found. Found this out when I pulled the rear shelf a couple days after it was done. They spent nearly all day on it as it is, so I think he just wanted it gone. He DID say to bring it back if I had any problems though... Whatever!

Just called a local business to them that I found on Google. Spoke with a person that answered at "Diesel Parts Sales & Service "904-356-3341". I asked about Taylor Diesel and he confirmed that they are no longer there, had closed up shop a few weeks ago. I inquired to a shop that could service the injectors on my '97 E300 and he recommended to check out L&J Diesel 904-786-7402.
