...rear headrest switch on the dash to put down the rear headrests? I understand that this is vacuum in the W124's. Does it have its own vacuum motor or does it work off the motor. I wouldn't be asking but I haven't got my motor work finished on it, and would just like to know.

Hi Steve,
I had wondered about this myself on my 87 300E, I'm sure my owners manual said you need the engine running. Seems strange to me and I can't see the logic behind it. Anyway, mine is exactly the same as yours (either that or we've got the same problem!) Cheers Ian ------------------ Ian Anderson 87 300E |

Yes, the engine does have to be running, for the source is the engine, not the vacuum reservoir.

on my 91 300E I have to have the engine running AND have the rear sun screen down in order for the headrests to go down... took me a couple days to figure that one out.
Just my 2 cents. EADG 91 300E |
