I have a friend that recommends to add a qt. of dexron tranny fluid to fuel tank for clatter and cleaning of injectors. Should I find a new friend or take his advice? 1986 300sdl 175ooo miles

Hmmm, doesn't sound too smart (but what do I know!) I'd just use an injection cleaner additive and be on the safe side - anyone else know different?

In the sixties, people began using ATF as a crankcase additive due to the high amounts of detergents found in ATF. At that time "High Detergent" oil was coming onto the scene.

I believe that from that, people began to believe that ATF with its detergents was a cure all cleaning agent. ATF has gone through drastic changes since then. Additionally many great special purpose additives have become available.

ATF is great for use in automatic transmissions. Use special additives for everything else and leave the cure alls for those who still believe the old wives tales.

Good luck,

It's not a good idea. I used to do that back in the early eighties until I started to notice how "coked up" the heat shields were getting on some cars. If you have an injector problem, it's just time to have them tested.
