I have a 82 300D in dire need of assistance. Just recently I noticed a small amount of white smoke coming out exhaust when I first would start up in the morning or leaving work. Now I notice it not only when I start up but when I have driven a short distance and come to a stop I am getting a noticable amount- it eventually stops. Tonight I noticed that my air filter is saturated with oil, changed oil about 1000 miles ago and also noticed that I have lost a considerable amount (oil level on the lower end of dipstick range) Are these related? Can someone give me a clue as to what I need to do- car is running great right now. thanks!!!

I would suspect the engine is consuming coolant instead of oil. Why? The white smoke. I usually see oil as blue smoke. Look at this closely and see.
