Continental info for 420 SEL

My wife ran over something in the interstate last night and punched a perfect hole in the center of the tire. I have been in the market for new rubber, as these have pretty well had it. I was wanting to go with the Michelin Entergy MX V4 Plus, but alot of money. The mechanic at the MB dealership told me the Continental Conti Extreme Contact V rated tire was the way to go and save a good bit of money. I have only read several reviews and all seem to be positive. Like four and a half and five star rating. But none of them were MB. Is any one out there riding on these? If so what is your thoughts on their performance.

There is a dedicated wheels and tires section in this forum. You might post there.

I've heard there's a considerable difference between the H speed rated MXV4 and the V speed rated MXV4. Considerable price difference too. At the other end of the cost scale, I've heard good things about the Kumho 716 even for cars with S-class heft.

Tires are like oil and trucks everyone swears by a different brand. Yoko's are a good buy, I like their Avid series.

Conti Extreme Contacts are a good tire but quite noisey.

conti extreme contact

i just put these on my 87 420 in february. i did quite a bit of research. on the tire rack's website it is rated by users as number 2 behind some very expensive pilots or something. so i chose the conti's. the handling is great. i get to push very hard on some back roads and they perform great. read what users have to say. i've used them in snow, ice and rain and they are really good tires for traction.

i live and work not too far from tire rack in so bend. in all my years of buying tires and such from "tire dealers" the rack was the most pleasant. i told them what i wanted and thats exactly what i got. nothing more nothing less. they did the job right plus they use the hunter balancing system.

well i'm sold so this summer when i get the 18 x 8.5 on the 88 i'm going to buy the conti.

now the cons. they are directional so crossing them is out. maybe they are noisey but they don't bother me and i rarely use radio around town. and i wouldn't plan on 60k miles. i'm guessing 30 will be about right to change. but for half the price it's like getting 60k out of a set.

as a side note the only other brand i buy is michelin.

I have a set on my 90 420 and they seem to be doing great. I am very pleased so far. 7k on them now. They were great. 225 60 15
