Good point. Can you please explain the basic difference between a scan tool and a code reader and what is the cheapest scan tool you know of? I will probably get one some day. Also, my car is black, what kind of problems should I look for...
Thanks, Mike |
A scan tool can give you more information about the electronic engine controls. In this case, you can look and see the mixture self-adaptation readings and compare them to the nominal readings and make a decision based on that, instead of just "the code" that a code reader will give. I think a cheap scan tool is maybe $250ish, not sure, maybe cheaper on eBay but you have to make sure it's OBD2, and often you need a scan tool that's set up for European stuff.

"Blue Car" does it again!
Just an update, Gilly! My home-made scan tool plus your advice nailed it. It was the Mass Airflow Sensor. :D

Has there ever been a code that was not actually caused by the MAS/AMM? It seems that whatever code some one gets, the answer is always the same - AMM.
