horn connected to alarm system?

When I bought my 84 300SD a few months ago I asked if the alarm worked. He told me it had a short in it so he had it disconnected. When I sat in it a few days later and tried everything the horn did not work. I'm assuming the horn is connected in some way to the alarm system. Is that right? Can the horn be connected in some way bypassing the alarm system? I sure would be more comfortable if I could blast that baby when I needed to! Thanks in advance.

The factory alarm has its own horn.

The horn only works with the key in position 1 or 2, not in position 0 or with the key out. I never understood that about MBs. Seems safer to have the horn work all the time.

Also, your brake lights will not come on if the key is off. Just something to keep in mind, especially if you are checking to see if the lights work ;)

It doesn't work when I driving and need to use it. Good to know about checking the brake lights. I know that the key has to be on for windows, sunroof, and just about everything! Kind of a pain sometimes when I go to get out and oops, all the windows are down! Just will take some getting used to.
